Dear Creator, Writers And People Behind The L Word,
Le sigh. The L Word had its season finale last night and to say the whole affair (well if I’m being honest the whole season was a major letdown) makes me angry would be an understatement. Last season you beat me over the head with Betty (and that whoreanus new theme song) and the insanely annoying Jenny. This season you add a tranny (is tranny an offensive word?) to the mix, along with about 800 other equally frustrating scenarios and I’m left wanting so much more.
I get it, the ladies - they are hot. The girl on girl action? Practically smoking. But I’m still having a hard time understanding why it is that this seemingly minute circle of lesbians is able to dredge up so much drama. I’m not a lesbian, so I’m totally going out on a limb here, but on the show you make them seem like some creatures from another (totally oversexed) planet who are incapable of having highly functioning, successful relationships and I know there have got to be some normal lesbians out there. Okay, I understand that the show is in fact a drama but seriously don’t you think you’re going a little too far? And speaking of far. The timelines with the time moving forward 6 weeks from one episode to the next? NOT. FEELING. IT.
All I’m asking is for a little bit more of the passion and follow-through of season one. I like seeing two hot girls get it on just as much as the next totally heterosexual female - but does there have to be 85 sex scenes every episode? You’re ruining it for me people. While I’m at it, if you were going to kill a major character might it have been to much to ask for it to be the aforementioned Jenny or Moira/Max - I’m pretty good with either of them going. So when the show returns a year from now (and what the hell is up with the insane hiatuses?), if things are markedly better - we’re pretty much going to have to end this relationship.
Love, Me
Allen Anthony: Alright - I feel like Roc-A-Fella records has a stable of singers who never see the light of day. I’m hoping that Allen Anthony isn’t one of them because he has a great voice and nice approach to R&B.
Pink: U And Ur Hand - I respect an artist’s desire to want to try new things musically but Pink has been hit or miss for me. I love Missundaztood but Try This was in a word - schizophrenic. Her new effort is I’m Not Dead and the jury is still officially out but this track shows promise.
The Little Willies - Easy As The Rain - “The Little Willies are a loose, expert country band featuring Norah Jones and four fun-loving buddies.” (via Rolling Stone). It’s the kind of music you’ll either love or abhor. Hopefully love.
India Arie - I Am Not My Hair - I like that India Arie’s music feels like a conversation between two good friends. This song continues the almost autobiographical feel of the rest of her music. She is what she is and it works so well for her.
Maxwell - This Woman’s Work - I have a renewed love and fervor for Maxwell. This song from MTV Unplugged makes me want to cry it’s so good. Instead of crying I just keep listening to it over and over and over.
Kate Bush - This Woman’s Work - Less someone try to tell me that it’s a remake and blast me for not understanding the genius of Kate Bush and for those of you who’ve never heard the original.
